At CITIZEN, we are always working on new technologies and materials to make our watches even better. The durability of materials is particularly important to us in order to save resources. More and more, we also rely on sustainably produced materials.
In our Citizen L-Collection we focus on the guideline “Inspired by Nature”, which affects both the design and the production of the watches. The Eco-Drive technology developed by us is used in all the models.
In order to do even more for climate protection, we are also taking care of the reforestation of forests together with our partners from now on.

MORE TREES FOR THE CLIMATE
Trees sustainably improve our climate by binding CO2 and producing oxygen, and provide a habitat for many animals. We want to support this and, together with our partners, are planting 500 trees for the reforestation of forests in Germany as part of the new collection.

INSPIRED BY NATURE
For our CITIZEN L Ambiluna models, we work with environmentally friendly materials. The bracelets are made from recycled PET bottles or the fibers of pineapple leaves. All diamonds are lab-grown, making them 100% conflict-free. The cases are made of our Super Titanium™, making them particularly robust and durable. The design of this series is also inspired by nature. Pure design, simple shapes, natural and iridescent colors, a light and pleasant feel – all this reflects the connection to the elements of nature that were our models.
POWERED BY LIGHT
Over 40 years ago, we at CITIZEN developed Eco-Drive technology, which converts any light into energy and stores it in a rechargeable energy cell. With Eco-Drive, our watches generate energy even in dim artificial lighting. Once fully charged, most watches will run for more than six months – even in the dark. Some models warn you when the charge is nearing its end or go into power-saving mode as soon as the watch is in the dark. Thanks to this technology, we save a lot of resources because regular battery replacement is no longer necessary, and you contribute to environmental protection every day.
NO BATTERY CHANGE NECESSARY
Approximately 4 million Eco-Drive watches are sold each year. This means that every year we save 4 million batteries that would otherwise have to be disposed of. Assuming that a battery is about 2.1 mm high, all these batteries make up an 8,400 m high tower – almost as high as Mount Everest. In this way, we reduce a whole lot of waste and use natural energy instead.

With Eco-Drive technology, our watches generate their energy from any kind of light and store it in a rechargeable energy cell so that the watch continues to run for longer periods of time, even in the dark. This eliminates the need for regular battery replacement.
